ALTER TRIP project training seminar

The ALTER TRIP project training seminar mobilized professionals and developed their skills in accessible tourism

The educational seminar of the ALTER TRIP project with the theme of accessible tourism received positive feedback and marked an important discussion about accessible monuments in the cross-border area of Greece-Republic of North Macedonia. Participants raised awareness, developed knowledge and skills.

The Educational Seminar on “Development of Skills and Incentives for the public sector regarding Accessible Tourism” was held on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at the Mediterranean Palace Hotel in Thessaloniki. The language of the seminar was English. Participants of the seminar were stakeholders including tour guides, public officials, NGOs, specialized staff, workers in cultural and national heritage monuments and others in the cross-border area Greece-Republic of North Macedonia.

During the seminar, two sections took place. The first section presented the European strategy for the rights of people with disabilities, accessibility frameworks, and training for serving disabled individuals. Dr. Panagiotis Tsalis and Dr. Konstantinos Raptis were the main speakers. The second section focused on accessible tourism as a quality factor for sustainable tourism development. It discussed the provision of accessible tourism, making tourism accessible, and the societal and economic benefits. The main speaker’s were Dr. Spyros Avdimiotis, Ms. Athena Mouratidou, and Mr. Grigoris Toulias.

The educational seminar is part of the efforts of the Ministry of the Interior (Sector Macedonia and Thrace) to promote accessible tourism and improve the quality of services offered to people with disabilities.

It is worth mentioning that in the context of the project a digital platform and an interactive map were developed that show accessible tourist routes and monuments of cultural heritage in the cross-border region of Greece-Republic of North Macedonia.
